The Bankruptcy Specialist performs routine legal work requiring basic to intermediate knowledge of legal procedures, methods and terminology by performing the following duties.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:
- Prepares and/or audits documents for accuracy as to financial data and bankruptcy case information and in compliance with court and client regulations
- Analysis of bankruptcy petitions and plans to determine the correct course of action based on intent
- Executes agreements and/or claims on behalf of the client
- Audits third party vendor for accuracy as to document information, assembly and redaction of exhibits; and filing claims and/or agreements with the court
- In instances where the third party vendor is not permitted to file documents, electronically file claims and or agreements with the court
- Contacts clients, attorneys and courts for resolution of outstanding issues, further instructions, status updates, and additional information and documentation, and to negotiate agreements or resolve claim issues
- Monitors and invoices client billings
- Manages client and court deadlines and ensures adherence
- Performs data entry to update accounts
- Reviews files, mail, and legal documents to gather information and locate missing or incomplete records
- Takes inbound calls, directs calls, and conveys messages, as required
- Reviews, notates and distributes mail and incoming work to appropriate parties
- Complete all required training applicable to assigned position
- Additional duties as requested or required
Β Qualifications:
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
- 1-3 years of bankruptcy, relevant legal and/or financial institution experience
- 1-3 years of relevant office experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Knowledge of legal processes is a plus
- Professional demeanor with clients and co-workers
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and sense of urgency to meet deadlines
- Must have basic proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Pacer experience a plus
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures; computer operation; word-processing software; internet research
