Benesch is proud to announce the opening for a Business Development Specialist in our Cleveland office! This position is hybrid and has work from home flexibility.


Position Summary:


Do you enjoy working with a marketing team to create innovative pitches and proposals to help professionals secure new clients? Are you looking to expand your experience and work in tandem with Business Development Managers to learn new techniques and styles? Do you enjoy conducting competitive intelligence research? The role of Business Development Specialist may be the one you've been looking for! This role is designed for the professional who is looking to work hand-in-hand with the business development team in order to help drive Benesch's initiatives.


The Business Development Specialist is responsible for supporting client development opportunities and assisting attorneys and practice groups firm-wide with their business development and marketing efforts. The Business Development Specialist will be involved with preparation of pitches and proposals and will ensure proposal content is current and repurposed appropriately across marketing collateral pieces, the firm website, attorney biographies, and other platforms. The Business Development Specialist will have the primary role in maintaining the firm's experience database, and will also provide competitive intelligence support, proactively maintain practice area and attorney pipeline data, and assist with preparation for firm events and attorneys' participation at industry conferences.


Essential Functions:



  1. Supports the RFP, pitch, and proposal processes from planning through submission, including working with attorneys, marketing staff, and other firm personnel in the development and execution of proposals and presentations. Identifies most applicable content and edits existing content for proposals and pitches.

  2. Serves as liaison between BD Managers/Director and Marketing Communications team to ensure proposal content is transferred and repurposed across marketing collateral, website and attorney biographies.

  3. Inputs experience matters into the experience manager database and onto the appropriate proposal and collateral pieces.

  4. Conducts company and industry research and fulfills competitive intelligence research requests as needed.

  5. Attends attorney and lateral partner discovery and coaching conversations with senior BD staff to capture notes and action items and assists with follow-up.

  6. Helps in planning of firm's internal BD training programs, including coordinating with senior BD staff, professional development staff and external presenters on logistics, scheduling, and any related materials.

  7. Proactively maintains and consistently updates various firm collateral pieces used for business development purposes. Responsible for verifying such information is kept current and is readily available for use in directory submissions and proposals.

  8. Creates basic marketing items as needed, including collateral pieces, attorney team cards. Uses InDesign to make edits to projects designed by the Graphic Designer.

  9. Coordinates the preparation and distribution of collateral materials for conferences, events, and individual timekeeper requests.

  10. Assists with maintaining certain firm directory listings, such as bar association directories, industry association directories, competitive intelligence profile pages, etc.

  11. Assists with the nomination process for various industry ranking such as Chambers, Best Lawyers, etc.

  12. Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Marketing Officer, Director(s) and Marketing/Business Development Managers.
