Summary






The Business Intelligence System Analyst (BI System Analyst) is responsible for facilitating the financial information and reporting needs of the Firm. This person will act as a day-to-day analyst responsible for organizing data points, developing ad hoc reporting and long-term reporting solutions. The BI System Analyst will work alongside Business Intelligence Strategy Analysts, and liaise with business users, various levels of management and the IT department to perform in-depth data analysis, interpret and define information needs, develop and deliver information via various Business Intelligence defined methods to drive business impact across the firm.









Duties and Responsibilities






  • Perform complex data analysis, query and report development leveraging Sidley’s main financial system(s) where applicable (e.g. Elite 3E, Big Hand data warehouse Intellistat) and other custom business systems as needed;
  • Work with the end users, developers and team management to understand business processes and requirements; identify gaps, communicate and define requirements for technical solutions including reporting, data warehousing and general application development;
  • Assist in the development of process changes or new technical solutions to satisfy the business need for projects and daily operations;
  • Develop reports using BI Tools, including IBM Cognos, Tableau, Business Objects and other tools for management reporting and financial analysis; connect and create SQL-statement-based queries or tools to facilitate data analysis;
  • Work with the BI Solutions team to develop data analysis models; create reports against source and data warehouse technologies; assist the business units in their information needs and end user reporting solutions;
  • Work with end users to address ad-hoc data analysis requests; determine the proper course of action to manage appropriate timelines via ticketing systems such as Service Now and JIRA;
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including BI Strategy, various IT and accounting teams, and end-users, to facilitate effective communication and ensure a holistic understanding of business requirements and information delivery plan;
  • Troubleshoot data and application issues with end users; fully analyze the impact and determine the strategy for a resolution; fully test and reconcile reports and data analyses; assist in the implementation of the solution;
  • Assess the BI readiness of a business area, and, when appropriate, conduct thorough analysis of existing business processes to implement a BI solution from requirements gathering through post-implementation support.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Management/Administration, Finance, Computer Science, Information Systems from an accredited and approved college or university; or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a professional services firm (ideally a law firm) or business intelligence
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Understanding of relational database concepts along with experience with report development leveraging database tables and query tools
  • Experience with standard Business Intelligence tools such as Cognos Analytics, SQL Server Management Studio, Business Objects, Tableau, Power BI, SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL Server Analysis Services (or similar)
  • Proven ability to communicate across business units and translate technical language to business terminology.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience with progressive financial analysis
  • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills within professional background
  • Knowledge of Elite 3E
  • Experience writing queries against a SQL Server (or similar) database.
