Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Practice Technology & Innovation Intern (Change Management & Communications Focus) in our Practice Technology & Innovation team, reporting directly to the Director of Practice Technology & AI Innovation.

Akin is committed to providing summer interns with a well-rounded summer experience. In addition to gaining work experience in the role defined below, summer interns will participate in various training sessions and intern-focused programming throughout the summer.

The Practice Technology & Innovation team leads the firm’s efforts to introduce new legal technologies, including AI, while ensuring smooth adoption and engagement through effective communication and change management strategies. This role focuses on developing internal communications, education materials, and engagement strategies to help attorneys and staff understand, adopt, and maximize the benefits of AI and other legal technology tools.

The position can reside in the New York or Washington, DC office and will support key projects related to AI awareness, change management, and internal communications.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Develop internal communications strategies that promote AI & LegalTech adoption, best practices, and process improvements.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the firm’s internal intranet, ensuring content is engaging, informative, and accessible.
  • Help craft clear, concise messaging that translates AI & LegalTech concepts into practical, attorney-friendly language.
  • Research and recommend best practices for legal tech change management, including training, engagement campaigns, and incentives for adoption.
  • Support the creation of guides, FAQs, newsletters, and educational materials to help attorneys understand AI & LegalTech’s role in legal practice.
  • Assist in designing presentations, training sessions, and interactive content to enhance learning and engagement.
  • Work closely with attorneys and staff to gather feedback on AI & LegalTech adoption challenges and recommend solutions.

Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program; preference for students studying communications, marketing, business, information systems, or a related field.
  • Interest in AI, legal technology, digital content creation, and change management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint); experience with content management systems (e.g., SharePoint) is a plus.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear, engaging content.
  • Ability to analyze feedback and data to refine engagement strategies.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Creative thinker with a solutions-oriented mindset.

The hourly range for this position in New York and Washington, DC is $19.50- $ to $24.00
