About the Role






The Compliance and Intake Supervisor is an integral part of Latham’s Office of the General Counsel (OGC) team. This role will be responsible for acting as the first point of escalation for inquiries from direct reports (Assistants and Analysts), as well as attorneys and other staff members, with the responsibility for supervising the day-to-day workflow of both administrative and substantive tasks in one or more of the below-mentioned compliance operations, including handling particularly sensitive or complex inquiries, while advising attorneys and staff regarding our engagement letter policies and procedures, New Business Intake (NBI) requirements, drafting and template questions, and client-proposed modifications. This role will be located in our Los Angeles Office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. 









Responsibilities & Qualifications






Other key responsibilities include:

 

  • Supervising compliance and intake staff in multiple offices and relevant administrative procedures; managing the performance of personnel in multiple compliance programs
  • Leading enforcement efforts for engagement letter policy, including coordinating and advising the team of compliance and intake assistants and analysts responsible for Client Intake Committee support regarding engagement terms and client-provided forms; coding and archiving documentation in accordance with firm policies and procedures; maintaining and updating engagement letter templates
  • Assuming a lead role in training members of the OGC, Attorney Support, and attorneys on engagement term and other intake-related matters; following up with one-on-one outreach as necessary to ensure understanding of and compliance with firm policies and procedures
  • Supporting cross-training initiatives and maintaining knowledge of matter-opening process as well as core “compliance and intake” projects to ensure appropriate support and supervision for all personnel in the intake vertical of the OGC
  • Generating performance evaluations in consultation with other supervisors and senior management; providing feedback to the team both as part of the firm’s normal review cycle and on a regular basis between reviews
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains

 

We’d love to hear from you if you:

 

  • Demonstrate experience analyzing and clearing conflicts of interest in a law firm setting
  • Exhibit the understanding of ethics walls, both their technical implementation and substantive application
  • Display the ability to proofread work of others to ensure compliance and accuracy

 

And have:

 

  • A High school diploma or an equivalent, with a Bachelor’s degree, preferably
  • Relevant continuing education (certificate, advanced degree), preferably
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a law firm or other professional services firm, preferably
  • A relevant advanced degree may be considered in lieu of requisite legal or compliance experience
