We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead and manage the financial operations of our law firm. The ideal candidate will oversee all accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting functions while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strategic thinking and strong technical expertise.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Oversee cash flow and cash management.
- Prepare financial statements and related reports.
- Full bookkeeping for firm accounting, flexible spending accounts, and 401(k) disbursements.
- Manage all aspects of entering financial information into the accounting system.
- Reconcile all bank accounts daily.
- Reconcile all credit card accounts monthly.
- Work in conjunction with co-managing partners and board members of the executive board to review the accounts payable process including determining available cash to pay bills and process payments to vendors.
- Perform monthly close tasks assigned by the co-managing partners.
- Maintain all corporate policies relating to accounting matters.
- Collect and analyze corporate financial data to provide management with internal reports.
- Provide special reporting and analysis of financial information to management.
- Manage administrative staff that report directly to the Controller.
- Provide back-up support to the Firm Administrator.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the partners.
- Prepare federal, state and local tax returns including IRS form 1065, Ohio CAT tax, Ohio UUT-1 Use Tax.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience with a proven track record of success.
- QuickBooks and advanced Excel skills preferred.
- Knowledge of Juris accounting software a plus.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to convey complex financial information.
