OVERVIEW:  The Director, Knowledge Management is a pivotal role responsible for leading both the Knowledge Management (KM) and Practice Management (PM) functions. This position involves close collaboration with executive leadership and with legal and operations teams across the firm to develop and implement strategies aimed at enhancing high-impact operational process efficiency and effectively capturing, organizing, and sharing knowledge and content. The Director will work closely with legal and operations teams to manage the processes of identifying and implementing process improvements and maintaining critical content required for case production. The role also involves developing and executing strategies to streamline operations and enhance knowledge sharing across the firm. Additionally, the Director oversees team management, project management, and the development of initiatives, ensuring the successful execution of all content projects. Partnering with IT to develop and implement solutions that streamline and automate legal team processes is also a crucial aspect of this role.  This hands-on position requires a proactive approach to managing teams and projects, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and innovation.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the firm’s overall Knowledge Management (KM) and Practice Management (PM) organization, setting its strategic direction, and ensuring effective implementation.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic plan development and implementation for the department in alignment with Firm goals and objectives.
  • Promote knowledge sharing through the organization’s operational business processes and systems by strengthening links between knowledge sharing and information systems.
  • Manage multiple teams led by senior managers.
  • Provide guidance and direction to the KM department, which spans multiple BAL locations with multiple direct and indirect reports.
  • Collaborate with all BAL departments to drive development, implementation, and utilize automation and process engineering systems to facilitate faster and higher quality case processing, including creating and maintaining all templates and forms.
  • Responsible for overseeing the creation and maintenance of all knowledge and workflow content within BAL’s proprietary immigration management system.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of all the legal resources and process infrastructure used by legal teams in their daily case work.
  • Promote and support a culture of knowledge sharing throughout BAL, disseminate information about the organization’s legal resources, standards, and tools, and champions the use of KM resources.
  • Remain abreast of KM industry best practices and insights to ensure BAL maintains a knowledge center of excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years’ relevant and/or industry experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Project management experience
  • Understanding of proprietary immigration case management software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to influence others to accept practices and approaches, and ability to communicate and influence executive leadership
  • Proactive and client-service focused.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Ability to create business solutions that meet the client’s needs while maintaining BAL’s overall strategy and vision for growth and development.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to lead a team through goals, collaboration and execution.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Able to stoop, kneel, bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
  • Able to perform general office administrative activities: copying, filing, delivering and using the telephone.
  • Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Regular and on-time attendance.
  • Must be able to prioritized, schedule and complete testing required for multiple applications with overlapping schedules.
  • A certain degree of creativity and flexibility is required.
  • Hours may exceed 40 hours per week.
  • Occasional travel by conventional means including aircraft, motor vehicle and the like within the region and to other locations as required.
