Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking an eDiscovery Project Coordinator working under general supervision of the eDiscovery Manager and Director of eDiscovery.
The role can reside in the Philadelphia, New York or Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities and will be responsible for coordinating all technical aspects and assisting with strategic and legal aspects for all assigned projects and matters. The eDiscovery Project Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact throughout the eDiscovery lifecycle, applying in-depth knowledge and experience to provide expert consultation and advice on eDiscovery technology and best practices and ensuring client service and satisfaction is attained in all areas. The eDiscovery Project Coordinator is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintaining an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
Project Management
- Consult with case teams to effectively develop and apply technical strategies, requirements and goals in order to develop and implement eDiscovery project plans, including data collection, processing, document production and trial.
- Develop and adhere to firm protocol to properly document eDiscovery project plans including workflows, role and task assignments, estimates, time tables and process improvements.
- Ensure standard procedures for eDiscovery and litigation support projects are consistently applied; monitor and adjust procedures to effectively comply with firm policies.
- Act as primary point of contact and liaison for eDiscovery issues between the legal team, eDiscovery group, technical staff and vendors to ensure proper communication between the parties.
- Consult with client's general counsel and IT group regarding technical and logistical issues related to eDiscovery.
- Develop cost estimates and advise on maximizing efficiencies and cost reductions.
- Evaluate the most efficient and cost effective use of firm and client resources to institutionalize and apply lessons learned regarding each project.
- Oversee the creation of statistical reports providing information on collection, filtering, processing, review and productions.
- When necessary, develop eDiscovery data processing and production specifications for vendors and/or analysts to meet legal requirements.
- Participate in planning and implementation of the eDiscovery group’s internal operational initiatives for process improvement and standardization.
Resource Management
- Promote and encourage legal teams to leverage internal and external resources through all phases of eDiscovery.
- Consult with legal team and clients on the selection of appropriate eDiscovery processing and software options.
- Delegate appropriate workflow tasks to Senior Specialists, Specialists, Analysts, and vendors, including data management, processing, production and quality control.
- Perform technical work when case deadlines demand and other eDiscovery department staff are not available.
- Train case team on all eDiscovery tools and technology offered internally and acts as key training contact for life of a matter on external eDiscovery technology.
- Oversee entire processing lifecycle, including bid process, error resolution, pricing and invoice process.
Administrative Requirements
- Complete and release time on daily basis and time sheets on a monthly basis.
- Ensure that minimum billable hours expectations are met, working with Manager and attorneys to seek out additional work as necessary.
- Track case tasks as appropriate in the eDiscovery Task Tracking system.
Professional Development
- Ensure expertise in technology is relevant to the position; proactively use most current technology to further teamwork, client service and efficiency.
- Keep abreast of emerging eDiscovery litigation support technology and processes.
- Maintain current knowledge of department software applications, and that personal knowledge remains current and comprehensive in area(s) of expertise.

Participate in departmental training initiatives and work to meet the requirements of annual learning plans.
Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- BA/BS degree strongly preferred; substantial experience may substitute
- A minimum of three years of experience in litigation support in a professional service environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to read, comprehend and follow instructions
- Strong service orientation, and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with users, peers, office and firm management, and outside business partners
- Ability to communicate with attorneys and staff in an effective, non-technical manner with patience, tact and diplomacy
- Experience with electronic discovery processing, forensic document collection, litigation holds, and other advanced litigation support functions

Demonstrated technical knowledge and expertise in the enterprise administration of the following systems:
- Relativity
- MS Access / SQL databases
- Familiarity with forensic data collection
