Facilities Manager
Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE), a non-profit law firm with a long history of representing people living on low incomes in Ohio in achieving equal justice and opportunity, seeks a Facilities Manager. This position will be based out of ABLE’s Toledo office.

Advocates for Basic Legal Equality (ABLE) is a nonprofit law firm established over 50 years ago to ensure that the most vulnerable people in our communities have the same access to justice as people and companies that can afford to retain an attorney. ABLE and its partner law firm, Legal Aid of Western Ohio (LAWO), are the only law firms available for comprehensive legal representation in non-criminal matters for more than 425,000 people living, working, and raising their families in poverty in Northwest and West Central Ohio. ABLE advocates for – and with – financially disadvantaged individuals and communities to effectuate just and equitable policy changes that address the structural causes of poverty and to protect their right to fairness and justice in the legal system.
The Opportunity
The Facilities Manager will be responsible for the management of ABLE’s Toledo building and coordination with leased offices, vendor relationships, safety and security measures, and daily operational needs of the firm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance Management: Supervise and coordinate maintenance activities to ensure all facilities and equipment function properly; maintain computerized records for equipment maintenance and warranties.
- Vendor Oversight: Manage contractors for maintenance, repairs, landscaping, snow removal, security, janitorial, and other services, ensuring high service standards.
- Safety and Security: Oversee building security and safety protocols, collaborating with stakeholders to address any building-related issues promptly.
- Lease and Procurement Management: Manage, negotiate, monitor, and maintain lease agreements for office spaces and equipment; develop and implement procurement policies, and coordinate the acquisition of goods and services to meet organizational needs.
- Signage and Document Retention: Maintain necessary signage at ABLE office locations and oversee the firm’s document retention policy, revising as necessary.
- Standard Operating Procedures: Collaborate with staff to develop and provide training on Standard Operating Procedures.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in business administration, Operations Management, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Experience: Proven experience in operations management, particularly in building, lease, vendor, and procurement management.
- Technical Expertise: Ability to inspect facilities, plan maintenance and repairs, and make informed decisions regarding mechanical, HVAC, security, electrical, roofing, plumbing, and fire and life safety systems.
- Strong Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational abilities, with the skill to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Communication and Negotiation: Strong negotiation and communication skills to interact and support all organizational levels.
- Mission Alignment: Commitment to ABLE’s mission, Strategic Advocacy Initiatives, and client communities.
- Team Collaboration: Experience working within a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative environment; able to work effectively with external agencies and community groups.
- Technical Proficiency: Excellent communication skills and computer proficiency.
- Travel Requirements: Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel per ABLE insurance requirements.
- Enthusiasm: Motivated and enthusiastic about challenging work and growth opportunities.
Compensation, Benefits, and Work Location
ABLE is committed to providing an equitable work environment, including a commitment to pay equity. The starting annual salary range for this position is $40,500 and $54,700 depending on experience. Comprehensive fringe benefits, including health insurance, annual leave, and paid parental leave. Some travel between ABLE’s office locations is required.
