The Firm Attorney for the Office of the General Counsel will be responsible for reviewing outside counsel guidelines (OCGs), responding to client requests and audits, and providing advice on the rules of professional conduct and other risk management issues. The Firm Attorney will work closely with the Associate General Counsel and will be an integral member of the Office of the General Counsel that works across multiple departments and functions of the Firm. 

Responsibilities

  • Review, edit, negotiate and finalize OCGs 

  • Respond to client audits and reviews of the Firm’s operations and policies  

  • Monitor and track OCGs and client audits

  • Partner with members of the Office of the General Counsel and the Conflicts & Legal Ethics, Information Technology and Accounting departments to streamline processes and to develop precedent   

  • Analyze and resolve complex ethical, legal, regulatory and commercial issues impacting the Firm, its lawyers and professional staff  

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • J.D. from an accredited law school

  • Lawyer in good standing with the New York Bar 

  • Minimum 3-4 years in the office of the general counsel of a law firm, with a focus on reviewing OCGs and responding to client audits and reviews 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication

  • Ability to review, edit and negotiate OCGs and other client requests and documents 

  • Aptitude to communicate with different internal stakeholders and departments

  • Strong attention to detail 

  • Exceptional organizational skills

  • Enthusiasm to learn new skills and areas of the law

  • Familiarity with the rules of professional conduct and other risk management issues impacting law firms

  • Knowledge of data security laws and issues is a plus

Salary Information

NY Only: The estimated base salary range for this position is $175,000 to $200,000 at the time of posting.

The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
