About the Role






The Global Finance Trainee is an integral part of Latham’s Global Finance team and will be responsible for providing support to the Global Finance Department while participating in a Global Finance Training Program, during which they spend four to six months in department teams before landing in a role within the department, while participating in general business skills training and department-specific training led by a manager, supervisor, or team member. This role will be located in our Global Services Office in Los Angeles. Please note that the start date for this program will be Summer 2025 and that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.

 

Within the Global Finance Department, there are opportunities to join either the Financial Analysis rotation or the Financial Transactions and Control rotation.

 

  • On the Financial Analysis rotation, you would be enabling data-driven decision making through quantitative analysis and financial reports. You may be engaged in financial planning and budgeting, expense analysis, fee proposals, advanced analytics, building and updating financial models, strategic projects, preparing reports, leveraging technology to provide insights into financial performance and day-to-day activity, and providing analytical support to attorneys, the department, and other firm management as requested.

  • For the Financial Transactions and Control rotation, you would be engaged in supporting and controlling key financial transactions of the firm. Areas you may be part of include financial reporting, statutory reporting, client billing and account services, accounts payable, asset management, procurement and vendor management, general ledger, retirement benefits and financial well-being, and treasury functions.








Responsibilities & Qualifications






Other key responsibilities include:

 

  • Participating in professional development skills training led by the Learning & Development and Career Navigator teams
  • Shadowing junior members of the department to gain exposure and insight into day-to-day tasks and responsibilities within the respective department
  • Providing administrative support relevant to the department; assisting with all tasks supporting the staff in the designated department
  • Providing a high level of customer service to internal and external clients
  • Utilizing programs such as Excel, Word, and/or PowerPoint as requested
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains

  • Possess the ability to take initiative and work both independently and in a team environment with a customer-service focus
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to convey department procedures and objectives in a professional and tactful manner

 

And have:

 

  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent (by the start date of the program)
  • Prior work experience or internships, preferably
