AGENCY DESCRIPTION: Indiana Legal Services, Inc. (ILS) is a statewide, not-for profit law firm that provides free legal services to eligible clients in civil cases through 8 branch offices. ILS is funded by the Legal Services Corporation, Indiana Civil Legal Aid Fund, United Ways, Area Agencies on Aging, and approximately 80 other funding sources.

This intern position is with the ILS Lawyer in the School Project, which provides free civil legal aid on-site at Indianapolis schools. The clinic can assist with a range of civil legal needs but focuses on helping eligible families with housing stability, driver’s license reinstatement, criminal record expungement, and public benefit issues. The project also provides legal information, education, and referrals at school and community outreach events. School-based legal services help increase stability and access to financial resources so that students are better prepared to focus on school and guardians have increased capacity to support their child’s education. The fall internship is funded through a Marion County Commission on Youth Closing the Gap Innovation Grant. We encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply who embody a commitment to aiding underserved communities and who have an understanding and appreciation of underrepresented communities.
