About the Role






The Machine Learning Engineer is an integral part of Latham’s Technology & Information Services team and will be responsible for leading and assisting in the development and design of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications to enhance legal operations, while working with and making recommendations to the Development Supervisors and Managers regarding the maintenance and enhancement of existing Latham production applications. This role will be located in either our Global Services Office located in Downtown Los Angeles or our New York office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. 









Responsibilities & Qualifications






Other key responsibilities include:

 

  • Working independently to develop and implement comprehensive computing solutions that solve user business requirements, while developing solutions in a professional manner and in accordance with established deliverable schedules and firm procedures
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams to develop and implement AI/ML solutions to solve complex business problems and drive innovation
  • Contributing to the entire lifecycle of AI/ML applications, including concept, design, test, release, and support
  • Staying current with the latest industry trends and technologies to keep our AI systems at the forefront of technological advancements
  • Participating in consultations with development staff, project analysts, and end-users regarding system requirements and functionality, and designing recommended solutions
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains

We’d love to hear from you if you:

 

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of Python with the ability to design, develop, and debug applications
  • Possess strong knowledge of Python design patterns, functional, and/or object-oriented programming
  • Exhibit proficiency with Python, including experience with libraries and frameworks relevant to AI application development (e.g., LangChain, Streamlit, LlamaIndex, Sematic Kernel, guidance-ai, GraphRAG, Haystack, Guardrails, etc.)

 

And have:

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent; with a Master’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related field, preferably
  • A minimum of four (4) years of professional Python experience in an industry setting, including a minimum of two (2) years of experience working with agile teams
  • Experience building and productizing AI models and systems, preferably
