Duties and Responsibilities:




  1. Complies with relevant privacy and ethics rules, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Ace (HIPAA) policies and claims management best practices.




  2. Communicates directly with all involved parties in a timely manner, investigates facts, conducts research, and obtains supporting documentation while analyzing insurance, medical treatment, and third party recoveries.*




  3. Develops and maintains a working relationship with clients to ensure the expeditious gathering of facts and information to support litigation or settlement activities.*




  4. Assumes some independent responsibility for files*




  5. Educates clients in order to set expectations, provide guidance, and instill confidence.*




  6. Identifies parties in case and documents in case management system. Identifies liability and


    issues.*




  7. Send notice letters to all insurers, including but not limited to: liability, uninsured, underinsurance


    carriers, and each insurer of accident vehicle, personal vehicle, and resident vehicle where


    relations/relatives are evident. *




  8. Assists with developing client treatment plans and prepares medical summaries.*




  9. Gathers information and documents necessary for expediting claims handling, demands,


    settlements, and litigation in a timely manner.




  10. Moves inventory of files and turns over files in order to expedite claim or settlement. *




  11. Obtains coverage limits for plaintiff, which may include owners, operators, passengers, or


    household relatives, and determines all applicable available insurance.*




  12. Reads and analyzes medical notes and reports while extrapolating and summarizing information.*




  13. Utilizes knowledge of health plan documents, coverage, deductibles, co-insurance, and co-


    payments.*




  14. Obtains, tracks, reviews, and analyzes explanations of benefits, medical invoices, statements,


    payments, and adjustments.*




  15. Documents medical and lien information in collateral case summary and liens/letters of protection


    screens and reconciles liens/LOPs with medical bills.*




  16. Drafts letters of protection for approval by supervisor.*




  17. Obtains lost wage documentation and performs computations.*




  18. Prepares legal documents including affidavits and legal correspondence.*




  19. Under attorney supervision, may draft settlement documentation including demand letters, powers of attorney, settlement statements, and releases.



  20. Knowledge of PIP in Massachusetts extremely helpful.
