Kilpatrick, a large international law firm, is seeking a Payroll Manager for our Human Resources Department in our Atlanta office. This position will be part of our team of attorneys, paralegals and support staff providing a high level of service to both internal and external clients. The Payroll Manager manages the payroll function to ensure accurate and timely payroll(s). Performs all activities necessary to process payroll, including maintaining related records, filing tax reports and voluntary deduction reports, processing involuntary deductions such as levies and garnishments, preparing accounting transactions and documents, documenting and updating procedures, and preparing special reports. Serves as the principal liaison with payroll vendor and maintains current knowledge of software capabilities. Ensures optimal utilization of vendor's service offerings and timely installation of upgrades. Responds to regulatory agencies and reviews reports and filings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Calculate, process, issue, and maintain data related to employee pay, statements of earnings and deductions.  Coordinate with team to ensure records are updated with employee information changes such as new hire on-boarding, terminations, transfers and other changes that impact wages.

  • Coordinate with payroll vendor to prepare, calculate and submit payroll taxes

  • Ensure wages are updated with voluntary deductions such as charitable contributions, health, life, and disability insurance premiums and retirement/401(k) plan contributions

  • Maintain payroll and related records recording the accumulation and use of PTO and  other leave of absence. Compile employee time and payroll data from time sheets and other records. Review time sheets, , wage computation, and other information in order to reconcile payroll discrepancies. Verify  hours worked, and pay adjustments, and post information to designated records.

  • Issue and record any necessary adjustments related to previous errors or retroactive wage and compensation changes.

  • Remain current on new legislation and regulatory ruling impacting payroll. Enforce adherence to requirements and advise management on required actions.

  • Provide basic information and answer questions on payroll and payroll tax matters.
  • Encourage and implement continuous improvement measures within Payroll.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/ a minimum of eight years of related experience processing payroll for multiple states including California.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) required
  • Minimum of eight years of related experience processing payroll for multiple states.
  • Minimum five years of experience with statutory requirements for California and payroll processing for California.
  • Experience in UKG payroll software preferred.
  • Experience processing payroll in a law firm setting preferred. 
  • Must be comfortable learning and working with technology. Strong Excel skills needed.
  • Knowledge of payroll management software
  •  Ability to analyze, assess possible problems and prioritize concerns.
  •  Ability to interface with partners, associates, clients, vendors, directors, managers and support staff.
  •  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  •  Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to prioritize multiple projects under pressure.
  • Must be able to deliver tangible results and be diligent in achieving associated objectives.

This is a full-time, regular position with a multi-faceted health benefit package including medical, dental, and vision. The firm also offers life insurance, short term disability plans and retirement plans in addition to holidays and paid time off.  The firm offers hybrid work schedules combining in office workdays as well as remote workdays.  The pay range for this position in Atlanta only is$97,000 to $146,400  per year.
