An experienced lawyer who will implement and further develop the Knowledge Strategy for the Litigation Practice Group (“the Group”) by: maintaining and developing resources to meet the Group’s knowledge needs; monitoring developments in the legal and business environment in order to keep both the Group and its Clients up to date; providing legal and practical expertise to support the Group’s practice, both directly and through the education of junior lawyers; collaborating with the Innovation team and other support departments on firmwide and Group-specific innovation initiatives; managing and expanding the Group’s collection of samples, forms, models and instructional resources; collaborating with the Learning & Development team to organize, design, and deliver Group training; and providing other support as needed.

 

 









Responsibilities






Knowledge Strategy

  • Work with the Knowledge Partner, the other Professional Support Lawyers who support the Group globally and the Partners who supervise their work, the Innovation group and other support departments, and the Global Chief Knowledge Officer to continually monitor and support the knowledge needs of the Group. Create and maintain resources to meet those needs that are aligned with the business goals of the Group, and mechanisms for regular review of the plan;
  • Collaborate with the Innovation group to develop innovative knowledge initiatives, test AI-related and other litigation technology resources, and roll out adopted initiatives and technologies;

Organizing and Sharing: Standard Forms, Document Collections, and Process Maps

  • Work with Group members to create, capture, and maintain practice-related knowledge content and support the sharing of information and knowledge generally;
  • Maintain and expand the Firm’s electronic collection of practice-related knowledge resources, which include United States federal and state law-governed samples, models, standard forms, best practices and how-to memos, instructional resources, and other materials useful to the Group;
  • Maintain the Firm’s US Commercial Litigation Process Map and create other process maps for key litigation processes, including links to useful knowledge content and resources;
  • Help the Knowledge Department generally to tailor the Firm’s knowledge resources to meet the needs of the Group;

Current Awareness and Thought Leadership

  • Monitor and keep the Group informed about important developments in core U.S. commercial litigation legal or business developments;
  • Prepare regular newsletters that highlight new resources, Firm thought leadership, and upcoming educational programs and CLEs;
  • Help design and manage rollouts of new litigation-related subscription resources to the Group;
  • Monitor the release of new or upgraded features in the Firm’s subscription resources and work with providers to educate Group members on these developments;
  • With the Innovation group, assist in developing change management strategies for the rollout of new legal technology platforms, including AI platforms

Lawyer Training and Technical Expertise

  • Work with the Group and the Learning and Development team to identify core practice-related training needs of the Group and, building on existing training programs and resources, assisting with organizing, designing and delivering (personally or with others) Group training, including seminars, workshops and offsite training;
  • Train Group members how to access knowledge resources on GlobalNet and elsewhere;
  • Train Group members on best practices when using internal and external knowledge resources;
  • Provide direct support to individual practitioners to assist them with locating practice-related internal and external knowledge resources;
  • Be a source of legal, market and practical expertise for all members of the Group, including the provision of direct support for client matters;

Practice Group Pages on GlobalNet

  • Maintain and improve knowledge-related content on the Group’s GlobalNet site;

Client-Facing Initiatives

  • Work with the Group and the Marketing Department to identify opportunities to develop business from new and existing clients through articles, briefing notes, client training, etc.;
  • As requested by the Group, develop and present training and other knowledge content to clients;

Matter Management and Collaboration

  • Work with the Group and Marketing Department to establish processes to capture matter descriptions and categorizations in our matter systems, and conduct post-matter review of lessons learned;
  • Assist with improving existing processes for capturing filed litigation documents and other valuable precedent documents;

People and Relationship Information

  • Work with the Group to establish processes to capture and publish information about individuals (both internal and external) with specific knowledge and experience relevant to the Group’s business in the Firm’s dedicated CRM systems;

Other

  • Supervise any professional support legal assistants assigned to the Group;
  • Participate in the planning of training and other knowledge-related activities;
  • Participate in regular meetings of the Professional Support function and Knowledge Department and liaise with other PSLs to facilitate the sharing of best practice and knowledge;
  • Attend Group meetings to update Group members on new and improved knowledge resources;
  • Attend external training and conferences to keep up-to-date with relevant developments in the law, business environment and professional support;
  • Provide other knowledge support to the Group as may be assigned by the head of the Group, the Knowledge Partner, or the Global Chief Knowledge Officer
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives








Qualifications






Education/Training/Certifications: 

  • This position requires a lawyer with actual practice experience who is or will become admitted to practice in the jurisdiction in which the position is located

Professional Experience: 

  • Five or more years of sound legal experience relevant to the Group as an admitted and practicing lawyer in a large law firm or corporate/financial institution legal department

Technical Skills: 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products

Physical Requirements:

  • May require occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
  • May require travel to other offices as needed

 

The typical New York and Washington D.C. pay scale for this position is between $258,800 and $297,600 although the actual wage or salary could be lower or higher if the candidate’s education, experience, skills and internal pay alignment are different from those specified.
