Taylor Nelson PL is seeking a senior corporate attorney to join its nationally recognized boutique transportation and logistics practice. This opening is available in either the firm’s Tampa Bay (downtown St. Petersburg) or Winter Haven, Florida locations. Our focused small firm handles complex and challenging matters and makes a real business impact across the country. Associates will work closely with attorneys who are industry insiders. We are looking for an attorney who has the capacity to learn quickly, take the ball, and run with it. No prior experience in transportation law is required. An ideal candidate will have business and transactional experience in a regulated industry and has a range of contract drafting and business structuring experience, and is comfortable advising clients on strategic decisions, contract interpretation, demands for payment, and insurance claims. We offer a high degree of substantive client interaction from day one, specialized training and mentoring, independence, and responsibility. Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Independently perform and manage the following with minimal Partner oversight:
- Review, draft, and negotiate sophisticated commercial contracts, including transportation agreements, warehousing agreements, vehicle and property leases, stock and asset purchase agreements, vendor agreements, financing arrangements, services agreements, and non-disclosure/non-compete agreements.
- Provide advice to clients regarding contract terms and implications on business operations.
- Research legal issues relating to a wide variety of business issues, including transportation law and regulations, secured transactions and financing arrangements, and dispute resolution, and provide analysis within client budgets and time constraints.
- Analyze and oversee insurance coverage issues and develop risk management strategies to transportation and related entities.
- Assist in due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and sales of motor carrier, freight forwarder, broker, and warehouse entities.
- Draft, pursue, and respond to demand letters.
- Assist on employment and litigation matters, when needed.
- Manage high client volume and workload responsibly.
- Research, analyze, and apply law to business operations within complex regulatory frameworks.
- Support regulatory compliance audits and analyses.
- Respond to compliance audits and investigations relating to transportation law.
- Exercise a high level of professionalism, business judgment, and legal analytical skills.
- Efficiently delegate assignments to staff and junior level associates and take responsibility for the supervision of their assignments and quality of their final work product.
- Provide training and constructive and tactful feedback to staff and junior level associates with respect to applicable assignments.
- Seek efficiencies and work to improve systems and processes.
- Maintain accountability to Firm Partners for any work product and independent client correspondence.
- Develop strategies to complex legal matters and offer solutions to Partners and clients.
- Timely and professionally resolve client needs, while establishing consistent updates to clients and Partners throughout the handling of each matter.
- Generate and develop business opportunities through referrals, networking, and industry leadership.
- Regularly supply clients with budgets for services and comply with the same.
- Provide consistent issue spotting and business-focused solutions to clients and Partners.
- Manage and effectively communicate with opposing counsels.
- Intimately understand client operations, structure, objectives, and goals.
- Keep apprised of industry developments, updates, regulations, and laws.
- Participate in industry associations, conferences, and forums through writing and presentations.
Position Specifications
Education and Experience:
- JD from ABA accredited law school
- Admission to Florida Bar Association
- 5+ years’ experience practicing law
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in three of the following four areas:
- Transportation
