Dykema, a leading national law firm, is seeking a Technical Illustrator to support an automotive client. The ideal candidate is a self-starting and passionate individual who will prepare detailed 3D CAD image drawings for submittal with design patent applications in both the United States and abroad. The Technical Illustrator works closely with the client’s patent attorneys, patent administrators and designers to prepare these drawings.


This position will be remote and will take direction from the client’s design group.


Technical Illustrator Duties:



  • Retrieves vehicle CAD data and prepares 3D design CAD models (using CAD software (CATIA), Adobe Photoshop). Creates Orthogonal and Perspective images based on guidelines received from attorneys for use in design patent applications.

  • Coordinates and maintains database of all figures submitted with patent applications.

  • Identifies issues and provides suggestions for improvements; prioritizes and effectively completes daily tasks.

  • Keeps team informed about progress and concerns.

  • Understands and maintains the appropriate level of confidentiality required for data/images.

  • Manages and follows through on tasks from start to finish within a specified timelines with limited supervision.

  • Actively participates in the team and provides feedback and solutions; listens and responds constructively to others' concerns.

  • Attend virtual and/or in-office meetings as requested.


Qualifications:



  • Associate’s degree or higher in technical illustration or graphic arts, or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s degree in technical illustration or graphic arts, or equivalent experience preferred.

  • At least three years of industrial design experience including studio design lighting of CAD images; prior experience working with a patent legal practice group in a law firm or corporation is a plus.

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software including CATIA Workbenches Generative Shape Design and Photo Studio.

  • Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy; must possess a trained eye for basic design aesthetic details.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization in a diverse work environment.

  • Positive attitude and professional demeanor; strong interpersonal skills; ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.

  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team and work well independently, taking initiative and being a self-starter; ability to effectively work in a remote work environment.

  • Excellent time management and project management skills.

  • Computer literacy and expert proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Ability to analyze problems, exercise good judgment, strategic thinking, and make sound objective decisions.

  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Teamcenter production database preferred.

  • Knowledge and experience with USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) Design Patent Drawing Requirements preferred.
