We are seeking a dynamic and experienced legal professional to join our team as Trusts & Estates Expert. As a member of our legal department, you will play a crucial role in serving as a subject matter expert developing and maintaining the highest quality estate documents on wealth.com’s leading platform. This person should not only have extensive expertise in drafting, reading and reviewing estate planning documents, but also understand the intricacies of working in a fast-paced startup environment and be naturally curious about the intersection of law and technology.  This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a rapidly growing company and work cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to identify legal concepts and issues, provide practical legal guidance to non-attorneys, and be an integral part of developing an exciting software solution that provides the same legal rigor as that of seasoned estate attorneys.

Responsibilites:

    • Draft, review and summarize complex wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts (such as GRATs, ILITs, and testamentary trusts), durable powers of attorney and advance health care directives
    • Develop, draft, maintain and improve legal templates and workflows for the formation of estate planning documents across all 50 states and DC, including state-by-state legal nuances 
    • Stay up-to-date on laws and regulations trusts and estates, wealth transfer and tax-driven planning, to help Wealth adapt to, and capitalize on, changing regulatory environments 
    • Research and draft marketing and other materials for publication on trusts & estates, tax, real estate, and probate matters
    • As the need arises, support the Chief Legal Officer by researching legal and regulatory topics, such as legal ethics, data privacy and artificial intelligence to address legal issues facing the company

Qualifications:

    • J.D. degree or paralegal certification
    • Minimum 3 years of experience as an attorney or paralegal in private wealth or trusts & estates practice area
    • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with an impressive ability to breakdown and articulate complex legal considerations in layman terms
    • Proactive, entrepreneurial and problem-solving mindset with a passion for new areas of business and technology development in fintech and estate planning
    • Excellent judgment and aptitude for optimization given ambiguous and imperfect information
    • Ability to lead projects as a resourceful and execution-oriented self-starter, to pivot between projects and competing objectives, to learn quickly and to think creatively
    • Ability to collaborate with and build strong relationships across departments
