Conflicts Assistant Job Details:

Snell & Wilmer is seeking a Conflicts Assistant to join the Conflicts Counsel Administration Group in our Phoenix office.  This role is focused on supporting the firm's conflict resolution processes and ensuring compliance with ethical standards.  The ideal candidate will have one year of experience in a law firm performing similar conflict responsibilities or three years’ experience in a law firm.

The hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the office.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Running and reviewing conflict reports for incoming work, including conflicts questionnaires, audits, and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
  • Assisting attorneys in assessing the nature of potential conflicts and determining whether they can be resolved or waived.
  • Drafting and providing conflicts waiver requests in consultation with the Conflicts Counsel Administration team.
  • Reviewing, verifying, and analyzing new business conflict reports, preparing summaries of identified issues, and recommending appropriate actions.
  • Draft essential documents such as engagement and disengagement letters, conflict waivers, and ethical wall memoranda.
  • Importing client and adverse party information into the Aderant database and generating accounting reports for audit purposes.
  • Managing daily client matter closures and contributing to firmwide closure projects.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • At least one year of experience in a law firm with similar conflict resolution responsibilities or three years' experience in a law firm or a multiple-lawyer corporate legal department.
  • Demonstrated ability to both independently plan and coordinate work with others to bring projects to successful completion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with tools such as electronic document filing programs, online legal research platforms (e.g., Lexis, Westlaw), searchable conflicts databases (e.g., Elite), and finance databases.
  • Pro-active self-starter: demonstrated ability to see and remain mindful of the big picture without losing sight of details.
  • Ability to research specific jurisdiction rules as they relate to conflict-of-interest issues.
  • Knowledge of the Rules of Professional Responsibility.
  • Strong research, deductive reasoning, and analytical skills to identify and resolve potential conflicts effectively.
  • Strong client service skills and time management practices.
  • Proven organizational skills, ability to set priorities and multi-task while meeting strict deadlines.
  • A risk management mindset with a keen attention to detail. Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, adaptable to varied settings and circumstances.
