This positon is open in our virutal office, The Link, or in any of our office locations.   

The Litigation Paralegal is responsible for assisting with a full range of Intellectual Property litigation matters for a busy IP practice (Federal District Court (various states), TTAB, PTAB, USITC, Appellate). This includes assisting attorneys and senior paralegals with fact investigation, drafting pleadings and correspondence, legal research, document preparation and production, database management, docketing, overall case management, electronic filing, trial preparation and attendance, and overall client service.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide assistance to attorneys in fact investigation, custodian interviews, drafting pleadings and correspondence, legal research, document preparation and production, database management, docketing/case management, and overall client service.
  • Learn/develop technical proficiency in eDiscovery database use and management; internet/electronic research; and project folder/electronic file maintenance.
  • Independently organize and manage files in compliance with standard practices of the IP litigation team.
  • Prepare materials for and assist in preparation for depositions, hearings, trials, and related proceedings and attend same if needed.
  • Pre-trial preparation and trial attendance.
  • Prepare draft pleadings, motions, and discovery including checking case law and record citations for accuracy and compliance with local procedures and Bluebook.
  • Electronic filing of pleadings/documents and arrange for service.
  • Assist with calendaring/docketing.
  • Act as a liaison between clients, colleagues, and experts to ensure timely communication of case information and production of materials.
  • Forecast requirements in advance and coordinate fulfilment of all requirements.
  • Stay informed of developments in the Intellectual Property practice area and the paralegal industry.
  • Attend and participate in internal CLEs.
  • Anticipate attorneys’ needs.
  • Serve as a mentor to a Paralegal Assistant, or more junior Paralegal, as needed.
  • Meet annual billable hour target of 1500 hours.
  • Perform other duties as required.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
    • Federal Court litigation experience required.
    • Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task efficiently and be an independent thinker.
    • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate preferred.
    • Significant, substantive legal related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education at the discretion of the SBU Leader.

      Compensation and Benefits:

      Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The exact compensation will vary based on skills, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:

      • State of California: $48,000 - $ 68,000
      • State of Colorado: $42,000 - $59,000
      • State of Illinois: $61,000 - $75,000
      • State of Maryland: $52,000 - $77,000
      • State Massachusetts: $66,000 - $76,000
      • Sate of Minnesota: $43,000 - $63,000
      • Jersey City, NJ: $57,000 - $71,000
      • State of New York: $68,000 - $80,000
      • State of Washington: $64,000 - $79,000
      • Washington, DC: $66,000 - $80,000

      The above salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, however bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed, and are dependent upon individual and firm performance.
