We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Product Owner to join a driven team of product professionals dedicated to helping customers and internal stakeholders focus on what matters. We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and energetic Senior Product Owner to join our team. The role will have a multi-product focus, including Litera’s Legal Knowledge product (Foundation) and the new Microsoft Outlook and Word Add-In product, for all Firm Intelligence data, taking both products to the next level of excellence.

The Product Management team works closely with prospects and customers, as well as internal service, sales, and engineering teams to solve large mission critical problems in products or customer workflows. You would work at the program level to drive progress forward to solve these larger issues by working with other product owners, product managers, and scrum teams to define and execute changes to products. A Senior Product Owner will spend much of the time working to understand key customer workflows to understand gaps in these workflows in order to create solutions to solve problems that not only derive value but add additional value, translate business needs into technical requirements to deliver technology solutions to help make customers happy.

This role works closely with many diverse groups both inside and outside the company, is a bridge of communication to solve problems, delivers fantastic products that drive strategic value for customers and help drive success at Litera.

This position is a natural leader on the Product Management team, knows the workflows covered by products extremely well, and can lead discussions, create thought leadership, and drive value around supporting these workflows and products.

A Day in the Life

  • Strives to discover hidden details and has a deep understanding of the current marketplace, personas, buyers, user problems, and know key workflows by reviewing market data, by independently observing, gathering customer feedback, reviewing surveys, and UX studies to help define and align decisions

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to further define the product strategy and vision. Partner with service, sales, and development teams to act as the voice of the customer and to channel feedback, mediate, and drive consensus between these groups

  • Use market data to drive planning and execution to successfully deliver both strategic and tactical market driven products

  • Champion the Agile software development process by acting as the voice of the customer to define and clarify user stories with the scrum teams through ongoing team collaboration, business acceptance testing, use case development and data analysis

  • Lead customer interviews and collaborate with the product manager in requirements gathering and discovery work, ensuring that customer feedback and business insights are effectively integrated into product backlog.

  • Partner with the Product Manager to manage and reprioritise the backlog based on the agreed product roadmap

  • Work with customer service, marketing teams and QA to successfully release new versions of products as well as create sales and training materials around the new versions

  • Lead and facilitate agile ceremonies - daily standups, sprint kick-offs, user story grooming, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, ensuring alignment and focus on the broader strategic goals.

  • Maintain the product backlog and support the product team in daily activities including backlog grooming, defect defect prioritization, and establishing clear system behaviors. You ensure the team is aligned with the product’s vision and long-term objectives.

  • Translate complex business problems and technical requirements into well-defined epics and user stories

  • Continuously monitor and analyze the competitive landscape and market trends, using insights to refine the product backlog and maintain a competitive edge

Role Progression

Within 1 month, you will:

  • Complete new hire onboarding, including eLearning courses, instructor-led training, and more

  • Train on Litera’s core values and get an overview of our solutions

  • Meet team members and review goals, initiatives, and specific objectives

  • Learn the product roadmap creation, development, and release processes

  • Meet with Key Stakeholders: Build relationships with internal stakeholders (engineering, marketing, sales, customer support, executives) to understand their expectations and priorities.

  • Understand the Product: Spend time deeply learning the company’s product(s), technology stack, and user base. This includes reviewing existing product documentation, exploring the backlog, and familiarizing with key features and technical constraints.

  • Assess the Market and Competitors: Perform a competitive analysis to understand where the company stands within the industry and identify gaps or opportunities in the market. This will help inform future strategy.

Within 3 months, you will:

  • Collaborate with Product Manager: Work closely with the Product Manager to align on strategic goals, vision, and long-term product direction. You may contribute to refining parts of the product strategy

  • Establish Authority: Begin taking a leadership role in agile ceremonies, guiding the team in more effective backlog management and ensuring priorities are aligned with business goals

  • Create Early Wins: Identify low-hanging fruit or quick improvements that can demonstrate your value and help the team gain momentum. This could be a small feature enhancement, process improvement, or customer satisfaction initiative

  • Drive Backlog Refinement: Take full ownership of the product backlog. This includes setting priorities, refining user stories, and ensuring that epics and features are clearly aligned with business and customer needs.

  • Plan your first release with Product Managers and Engineering

Within 6 months, you will:

  • Drive Agile Process Improvements: As you become more familiar with the team’s working style, you’ll introduce optimizations in the agile process, ensuring more efficient development cycles and better collaboration.

  • Own Sprint Execution: By this time, you are actively driving sprints, ensuring the team is delivering high-value features on schedule. You’re removing roadblocks, providing clarification, and ensuring smooth collaboration between teams

  • Influence Product Decisions: Your input will start to play a more significant role in key product decisions and engineering efforts. Whether it’s launching a major new feature, reprioritizing initiatives, or pivoting based on market feedback

About You

  • 2-6 years of experience as a product owner or senior product owner in agile environments, although more experience is welcome

  • Tech savvy and passionate about building products

  • Strong product management or development process knowledge, including but not limited to having a certification on Scrum methodologies (eg. CSM, CSPO or PSM)

  • Experience of working in the legal or legal technology industries is desirable, especially experience with Knowledge Management or Marketing and Business Development use cases. Microsoft Add-In development a plus.

  • Comfortable using collaboration and CRM tools such as JIRA, Confluence and Salesforce.

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to take complex business requirements and translate them to a form that is widely understandable

  • Think through and advise about how minor changes or requests can have strategic impacts across all levels of the business

  • Metrics-driven: Strong analytical and synthesis skills are a must, including the ability to absorb and process large amounts of data into actionable insights

  • Autonomously and confidently speak to a wide range of stakeholders, willing to travel when appropriate, and able to seek out conversations and discussions yourself

  • Self-motivated with curiosity about how our customers work, and passionate about delivering great user experiences

  • Comfortable balancing competing priorities while working with and solving problems for customers. You do not shy away from awkward situations or being clear when you cannot commit to something

  • You have attained a bachelor’s degree or higher
